On A Thurst For Education
Kindergarten Children living in Reinach who have their 4th birthday before the 1st May of any given year can attend their local kindergarten from the August of that year onwards. A place in the kindergarten is available to all children for two years, but it is only obligatory to attend for one year. The costs are met by the local council. In addition the council also runs a remedial teaching kindergarten and offers logopedial support as well as support teaching in German. Primary schools After kindergarten the children move on to the local, publicly-funded primary school, which they usually attend for five years. After the primary school follow secondary schools, which are arranged on three levels of achievement required and which take four years to complete. Secondary schools Reinach is the location of one of the best equipped commercial secondary schools. Attendance at a technical grammar school (offering limited access to university) or a grammar school is possible in the neighbouring communities of Munchenstein and Oberwil. The technical colleges are also within easy reach of Reinach. Higher education Those living in Reinach profit from its proximity to the city of Basel and the excellent infrastructure the university there offers. The College of Higher Education of North West Switzerland (FHNW) also offers a wide range of studies in the region. Music school The music school run by Reinach offers a wide range of high quality musical tuition. Children between five and seven years of age can attend the kindergarten choir. After completing the basic course, which is integrated in the syllabus of the primary school, the children can begin with tuition in playing an instrument. Ensembles and an orchestra complement the individual lessons, for which the parents have to pay a moderate contribution. Private schools Thanks to the International School Basel (ISB), Reinach has an English-speaking private school which covers the whole spectrum from kindergarten through to the international baccalaureate. The teachers and the school administrators are native English speakers and teach around 1,000 students from all over the world. The “Learn in”-Learning Centre in Reinach is a private educational institution, which offers individual or group tuition in a broad range of subjects. Beginning of the school year and school holidays The school year always begins in August and there are approximately 13 weeks of school holidays, spread over the entire year. The exact dates for each year can be obtained from the school office or on this website (in German; reference 'Schulferien'). Childcare Working parents profit from the well-developed network of childcare on offer. The 'Verein für familienergänzende Tagesbetreuung' (association for family-supportive day-care) offers both subsidized places in day-care centres and day-care with families. In the KITA of the primary schools Aumatten and Reinacherhof, kindergarten and primary school children are looked after and helped over lunchtime, on school-free afternoons and after school. There are also two private day-care centres on offer.
